How Interior Design Impacts Your Mental Health

Home is where the heart is and why not? We spend most of our time in our homes. It is especially true since the advent of the work form home culture. Even before this work-from-home culture, our homes were our go-to place to destress, rejuvenate and recharge. Who doesn't like to come to a peaceful and welcoming home and unwind from the daily rigmarole of life? But what if your house is a source of stress itself?

Yes, your home can be a source of stress if not properly kept and organized. What is the point of coming back to your home after the whole day of toil only to land up in more clutter that will do nothing but adds to your stress? Your home and the interior design can affect your mood positively only if you keep certain things in mind.

So how does interior design affects mental health?

A lot of people ask how can home and its interior design affect our mental health? The answer is simple when your house can be a source of inspiration, warmth and relaxation it can act opposite too. Imagine a situation when you return to your home after days of hard work from the office, while picking grocery way back home only to find that the whole house is cluttered? Will it not add to your already cluttered mind? Won't you become uneasy as it is not what you expected? People have so much clutter in life, and if your home becomes a source of stress, then where will you get your much-needed respite?

Your home can be a sanctuary of peace and harmony only if certain rules are followed:

1 - keep your home neat and clean

Everyone loves a neat and clean house. If you keep your house neat and clean, it will feel like home. And it will impart you much-needed satisfaction to see your house spic and span.

2 - Keep your house clutter-free

It is always good to keep your house organized by keeping it clutter-free. Once you keep it organized, positivity comes in and all the negativity, stress and undesirable emotions flow out. And it is what you want when you come back to your home and relax.

3 - Keep natural sunlight coming in

Always keep your shades or curtain open during the morning and daytime as the sunlight brings a lot of energy and fights lethargy. Once you keep your window shade open, you feel warm and connected to the outside natural world of sun, clouds and sky. It will impart you a lot of peace.

  1. Keep natural air coming in

We all live in air-conditioned houses but is very important to breathe fresh air too. So, the first thing you should do is to open your window shades and let the natural air come in for some time. Once you do, you allow a lot of positivity to seep in.

4 - Decorate your house

Everyone wants to live in a beautiful house and if you have one you are blessed. You should decorate your house with beautiful things. Beautiful things give you a good feeling and are soothing to your mind. So, a beautiful house imparts you mental peace.

5 - Keep plants within and on the balcony

Always keep plants inside and on the balcony. Keeping plants keeps you connected to mother nature and it imparts a lot of positivity to you and your mind. When you see your plants grow you become optimistic in life, and it all positively impacts your mental health.

6 - Make a cosy corner in your house to unwind

If you are an artist, make an art room, or a coffee connoisseur, keep the coffee table and chairs on your balcony. The idea is to live your passion in your house. Once you live your passion in your house, you spend time at the most relaxing place in this world your home.
